The Office for Artificial Intelligence (Office for AI) is responsible for developing and driving South Australia’s strategy, policy and governance on artificial intelligence (AI). It is our responsibility to support the transition to AI-enabled government services, increasing the capacity of public services for the benefit of everyone in South Australia.

We are developing two major strategies to guide the responsible use of AI for the benefit of our community, economy, and public sector.
Policy support for agencies
Policy and guidance are being established to ensure the safe, ethical, and transparent use of AI across South Australian government agencies and services. These guardrails help agencies manage risks, comply with legal and ethical standards, and maintain public trust as AI technologies are adopted.
Guidance for agencies on AI application and adoption
A consistent and scalable approach is being developed to help agencies apply AI to real-world issues and opportunities. This model will incorporate built-in policy guardrails, defined stage gates, and clear escalation points to ensure responsible innovation, effective delivery, and alignment with government standards.
